Jacky Jacky in the Box

Jacky

"a performance installation piece that crackles with so much black humour it's like sticking a knife into a toaster" (The Age)

Celebrate the return of Spring with an evening stroll through the Atrium to check out our new performance art installation, which will be presented by Federation Square for a month of lively “Late Night Thursdays” (see dates below).

A refreshing look at contemporary Aboriginality, Jacky Jacky in the Box blows the dust from a lingering perception of Indigenous Australia as an anthropological curiosity.

Take a look inside Ilbijerri’s three glass museum cabinets, dotted through the Atrium in Fed Square, and you won’t see a boomerang, a stone tool or a black statue in a lap lap. You might see a young professional in a three-piece suit. You might see a girl listening to an ipod. You might see more than you bargained for.

Jacky Jacky in the Box will be supported by The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia’s program of Indigenous focused live music, performances and talks.

Dates: Thursday 11, 18 & 25 September & Thursday 2 October
Time: 6:30-8:30pm
Venue: The Atrium, Federation Square
Price: FREE
